Darryl has spent much of his life after baseball doing numerous corporate appearances, speaking to various groups and writing numerous best-selling books. When not with his family, he spends much of his time giving Christian, motivational, uplifting speeches to groups about the power of Jesus Christ, the recovery process from addiction and the power of faith. Few have experienced the extreme ups and dark down times as Darryl and he shares those personal stories throughout his life.
Darryl attended the Mets’ 1986 World Champion team reunion on August 19, 2006, where the team received a standing ovation from fans at Shea Stadium in an on-field ceremony. He was inducted to the Mets Hall of Fame in 2010.
He now resides in Missouri with his wife Tracy whom he met in a drug recovery convention.
